HAZOP Studies
OUR SERVICES
Clean Path Engineering offers risk analysis services using the HAZOP (HAZards and OPerability) method. The studies identify potential hazardous events which may have significant consequences to personnel and public health and safety, the environment, and the finances of the project.
The HAZOP Process:
01.
Nodes
The process will be broken down per node to facilitate the study. Usually each node will represent a skid.
Once each node is identified the review will sub-divide the node into its different fluids (biogas, RNG, waste gas, condensate, instrument air, etc.)
02.
Deviations
The HAZOP method uses parametric process deviations based on process parameters such as flow, level, temperature, pressure, etc.

This correlates consequences, safeguards, and action items to each particular cause of an identified concern, allowing for ease of understanding, full cross-referencing, and improved auditability.

Deviations are customized to our clients needs.
03.
Causes
Causes to the deviations are identified thanks to a dedicated HAZOP team put together for the study.

Causes are discrete malfunctions or errors caused by either equipment or operating personnel that could reasonably be expected to occur and lead to a potential hazardous scenario.
04.
Consequences
Consequences are documented as worst credible-case consequences, taking into account the design of the process, but without consideration of any installed safeguards or controls. Severity is estimated using the risk matrix severity scale for the worst credible-case consequences.
05.
Safeguards
Only effective safeguards that can credibly lower the likelihood of the scenario are documented. Safeguards are required to be auditable (appearing on a P&ID, design document, etc.) in order to be credited in the HAZOP study.
06.
Recommendations
A list of recommendations will be provided with the HAZOP report. This is the most crucial part of the study as these recommendations will lower the risks identified to an acceptable level.

“Each HAZOP study will be customized and prepared ahead with the customer, including risk matrices and deviations, to make sure the results meet expectations and the project requirements.”
